How it all started

Carpentry has always been my passion.

One of my earliest memories is of my Dad lifting me into the loft, telling me it was going to be my new bedroom. Watching the builders work fascinated me, creating a whole new room out of a space where we stored Christmas decorations. From a very young age, I either wanted to be a carpenter or Indiana Jones. It became clear to me that the latter was somewhat ambitious!

My parents encouraged my interest in woodwork from an early age. Unfortunately, there was no such thing as carpentry lessons for children at that time, however, my parents managed to find a woodwork and DIY class aimed at single women. With some persuasion, the tutor, Sandy, decided to make an exception and allowed me to join.

Fast forward about 10 years and I had managed to land myself some Saturday work with a local builder. My first employer was so impressed with my enthusiasm for building that he offered me a job as soon as I finished school, while agreeing for me to continue my learning at college for 1 day a week. When my course was close to completion, I was head hunted by Mowlem (one of the largest construction companies in the South West), where I completed my qualifications. I went on to hone my skills, working for a small Bristol based company, to which I owe the vast majority of my carpentry knowledge. Having my own business was always the dream so when I saw an opportunity to convert my neighbours loft, I took it. I quickly gained a reputation for high quality loft conversions and began to build up my business.

I am now the proud Director of a thriving loft conversion company, with a dedicated team of 20 plus highly skilled staff. Over the years I have come to know some of the best carpenters and members of the trade, of which I am proud to say are members of my JBS team.

With over 15 years’ experience in the industry, our reputation has gone from strength to strength and is built from our core values, ensuring a personal and positive experience for our customers.
Many of our staff have been with us from the beginning. We all strive to maintain our reputation to produce high end conversions. Every time.
